With New Zealand Fashion Week looming on the horizon in Auckland, its an attractive time to pop on up to the city of sails. The NZ Herald Designer Garage Sale is one pretty darn exciting public event – $20 entry and an array of gorgeous quality NZ designer threads to savour. Blissness. And thankfully, for those of us in the capital not heading north – we are not being left off the fashion radar this year.
Te Papa Tongarewa Museum of New Zealand are popping on some lovely textile treats. Firstly, we have Enriching Fashion: an eye for detail which opens this Saturday. Its a wee exhibition in the Eyelights Gallery, a sliver of a gallery on Level 4 sandwiched between Inspiration Station and Te Papa’s library. Enriching Fashion is touted to show off some of Te Papa’s finest fashion pieces – and if this youtube clip is anything to go by – yum, yum yum!
On Saturday 25 September on The Marae, on Level 4, there is a talk with the World of Wearable Art Judges which looks fabulous.
And then there is the Talking Fashion series where Angela Lassig continues to talk with some of our leading designers about their work. This month – Liz Mitchell, Denise L’Estrange Corbet, and Murray Crane. The talk series comes out of the recently released book by Angela Lassig, New Zealand Fashion Design (video book review here).
