The Big Shwop, Wellington

Wowzers – what an event!

The Big Shwop – Wellington held on the 25 July 2010 was absolutely brilliant. Thanks Wellington for being so gosh-darn cool and soaking up The Big Shwop concept so wholeheartedly.

Here are a few snaps from the day.

Shwopping is as good as the clothes bought in and we were stoked at how brave people were at bringing in their fabulous designer and vintage clothes to shwop. This is Amy, one of our shwopkeepers, handing out vouchers for fabulous threads.

While the shwopkeepers were busy bees upstairs racking the clothes according to size, and having some much needed lunch, we keeped shwoppers entertained downstairs. Every shwopper enjoyed a complimentary glass of MOMO wine and listened to some inspirational speakers who are living a fashionably sustainable life. This is a photo of Gosia Piatek, the founder of Kowtow speaking about their recent trip to India. Kowtow is a 100% organic, fully fairtrade fashion label and Gosia spoke about the visit to the cotton farms and factories that they get their fabrics from. Kowtow dressed all the shwopkeepers in their fantastic brand. Just brilliant.

Then shwoppers were treated to the lovely Corinne Morley from Trilogy skincare. Trilogy are right behind the shwop concept,  providing gorgeous eco-gifts for each and every shwopper to enjoy. Fabulous. Corinne introduced us to why Trilogy are so rad, and also introduced us all to another type of shwop – the Trilogy Cleanser Trade-in. Shwoppers were welcome to bring in old cleansers, that weren’t Trilogy and trade it in for a brand spanking Trilogy one. Steal!

And then, at 1pm, The Big Shwop began. This is me and Chrissy trying hard to get the shwop rope out of the way of excited shwoppers. Gah!

Oh joy of joys! Cool clothes for everyone. One shwopper stoked.

Inga rushing great clothes back to the racks for further perusal.

And as quick as the pop-up Shwop shop was open, it was done with. A happy shwopper receives gorgeous eco-gifts after a successful fashion fix on the shwop floor. Nice one.

The Big Shwop -Wellington, our sixth event and our very best yet. Around 2000 pieces of clothing recycled to loving wardrobes all over the city. Thanks again to all of our sponsors, our shwop keepers, our friends and our family.  Without you all it would just be a eco-fashionista’s dream. Thanks for helping us make it all happen.

Dr Dave Turnbull, from clickwork, thanks yet again for your brilliant photography. It is rocking out awesome.

  1. My second big Shwop and I enjoyed it even better than the first one. Keeping everyone downstairs was feedback I gave last year and a it really helped. So did the five item policy. Made for a great flow of clothing in and a out of the changing rooms. Most excellent. Thanks to everyone!
