Our planet, philosophy, thumbs up, Wellington

Trilogy skincare, the jungle, and you….

Wellington shwoppers are going to be totally treated this Saturday. We are all so excited about it!  There is so much in store for you all.  Obviously there will be fine fresh clothes to be had by all the shwoppers. That is after all what The Big Shwop is all about –  providing us all with opportunities for rejuvenating our wardrobes without asking more from our very stretched Papatuanuku.

The day will be made even more shiny by great live music from the gorgeous DJ Misteek  and,  a veritable bucket load of  wonderful products for each and every shwopper to be spoilt with. I’ve told you all already a little about MOMO wine, Peoples Coffee, Trilogy skincare and ecostore. They are all fantastic companies with sustainability at their heart and I wanted to share a little more about what Trilogy have been doing recently – which rocks.

Trilogy skincare and the jungle….

As part of Trilogy’s commitment to animal welfare, they have started an ongoing campaign to support endangered Orangutans in South East Asia.

Orangutan sml

$1 from the sale of each specially marked box of the Certified Organic Rosehip Oil goes to the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation, the worlds largest Orangutan Sanctuary.

Increased demand for Palm Oil has lead to the deforestation of rainforests in South East Asia. Due to the loss of their natural habitat, the survival of Orangutans is completely under threat. The Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation actively rescues and rehabilitates wild Orangutans from oil plantations and releases them into wild, protected rainforest habitats.

It is a pretty grim story, of the power of profit, that appalls and angers us all I am sure.  But what can we do?  Well, as consumers we hold a huge amount of power. Firstly, we can get informed. Secondly, while it is pretty hard to boycott palm oil – by some estimates over 50% of our supermarket items contain palm products, we can read our labels, choose a product without palm oil when we can and demand more from our suppliers.

“Let us remember, always, that we are the consumers. By exercising free choice, by choosing what to buy, what not to buy, we have the power, collectively to change the ethics of the business of industry. We have the potential to exert immense power for good—we each carry it with us, in our purses, cheque books, and credit cards.”        Jane Goodall, “A Reason for Hope”

So hooray to Trilogy for helping raise awareness of the fragile state of the forests in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Trilogy skincare and you…..

At The Big Shwop this Saturday, all shwoppers can choose a complimentary beauty treat – either a Trilogy Botanical Moisture Masque (95ml RRP $29.90)

HandCream50ml_HRES_CCAwesome huh? Totally awesome.

If you are interested in finding out more about the orangutans and one man’s solution, listen to Willie Smits talk here.  This guy is incredibly understated, but indefatigable, and is making things better in such a holistic way that I was blown away.
